Snoring
Snoring is the noise produce when one sleeps and it is
caused from vibrations produced by the soft tissues at the back of the nose and
mouth. The noise is generated by turbulent flow of air from narrowed passages.
A severe case of snoring is when those same soft tissues blocks the air
movement at the back of your throat. This hinders the ability to breathe
properly.
Most people that snore are obesed. Too much fat in the neck
also makes the air passage to narrow causing the person to snore.
Postmenopausal women often snores. Family history and genetics play a role in
some people that snores. Other medical conditions causing snoring includes:
allergies, cold and nasal tumors, sinus infections and underactive thyroid
gland.
Obstructive sleep apnea is an intense form of snoring where
your upper airway closes and stops you from breathing for a short duration
while sleeping. As the negative pressure of inhaling pulls harder on your soft
issues, it seals the airway more tightly. To breathe again and get air into the
lungs, you must wake up create a tension in your muscles including the tongue
and throat to open the airway. When you have sleep apnea, you stop breathing
momentarily for 10 seconds. The apnea quiets the snoring temporarily, after
which you wake up with a huge snort. Occasionally, is the bed partner who is
the most aware of this sleeping apnea and snoring. Characteristics of
obstructive sleeping apnea include: depression, decreased sexual drive,
confusion, loss of memory, psychiatric disorders and impotence.
Treatment
You tend to snore more often while sleeping on your back,
why don’t you change your sleeping position. Try and wear T-shirt backward with
a tennis ball inside the pocket. Definitely, you will not find it comfortable
sleeping with tennis ball at your back. This will now help you to change
position.
Lose some weight. 10 pounds loss can make a huge difference.
Try and shun alcohol consumption especially 4 hours before going to bed.
Alcohol, narcotics and sedatives can make the throat muscle to relax and the
tendency for airway hindrance increases thereby leading to snoring.
