30 children, teenagers rescued from traffickers in Enugu

The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Enugu State Command, has disclosed that its operatives rescued over 30 children and teenagers who were about to be trafficked to neighboring countries since the beginning of this year.
The said teenagers were to be engaged in child labour outside the shores of the country.
Commandant of NSCDC in Enugu State, Mr. Stephen Zwali  Lar, disclosed this at a news conference in Enugu.
According to him, the teenagers were camped in various hotels in the state by the traffickers, who were not named.
But he explained that the traffickers were arrested.
Lar further explained that operatives of the Command rescued the children and teenagers after raiding the hotels where they were kept.
He added that they were handed over to relevant authorities.
“If the NSCDC operatives had not rescued the teenagers, the culprits would have trafficked them to neighboring countries for child labour,” he said.
In the same vein, Lar said over 90 vandals were arrested for tampering with Federal Government assets, including Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation pipelines.
He noted that the destruction of pipelines rose to a worrisome level in the zone in the wake of the recent revival of the NNPC pipelines from Port – Harcourt to Enugu.
