The Nigerian army has resolved to tackle the security challenges facing the country.

The army expressed concern over the rising insecurity as a result of militancy, Biafra agitation, Niger Delta militancy and oil theft in the country.

It has resolved to strengthen its tactics in tackling the challenges posed by these groups in order to create a conducive environment for peace and economic development in the country.

This was contained in a communique issued at the end of the 2015 Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference and signed by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Tukur Yusuf Buratai

The army said it would continue in its fight against the Boko Haram terrorists and restore state authority in the north-east region.

“The Nigerian army identified the need for collaborative effort among security agencies in tackling the present myriad of security challenges across Nigeria. In this regard the Army requires joint training contingency plan with other services of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, the Nigerian Police, Department of the State Services and National Security and Civil Defence Corps in tackling these threats.

“The Nigerian army identified the language gap between Nigeria and its Franchophone neighbours and resolved to institutionalise French  as an alternative language,” the communiqué read.

Buratai thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for his continued support in tackling the security challenges in the country.

He asked the president to make the welfare of troops a cardinal point of his support to the army.

Recall that President Buhari had given the service chiefs December deadline to end the Boko Haram insurgency.

On December 9, President Buhari held a closed meeting with the service chiefs at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja. Though details of the meeting are unknown, it was gathered that it had to do with the ongoing counter terrorism efforts of the federal government.
