Obesity
The foods we consume assist in our well-being. And these
foods contributes the nutrients we need for healthy bodies and calories we need
for energy. When we consume too much, the extra food is stored in our bodies as
fat. Excess eating makes one to gain weight which may also lead to obesity as a
result of excess weight.
Obesity is an accumulation of excess fat in the body, and it
is long term disease. Obesity is when one has a body mass index (BMI) of 30 and
above. The body mass index is the measurement of one’s body weight in relative
to his height. Obesity is a widespread disease in many developed countries
today and it is one of the most leading cause of preventable disease in the world.
Symptoms of obesity include: enormous body structure,
difficulty in doing daily activities, breast region adiposity in boys, enormous
belly with blemishes, breathlessness, small penis in boys, early puberty sets
in, flabby fat in the upper arm and thighs, knock-knees which is common,
drowsiness.
Causes
Obesity is cause by excess weight gain which results from
too much consumption of more calories than the body can use up. The body will
take much of the calories it needs. The excess is now converted to fats. Then
the fat cells will start increasing in size and then in numbers. When one loses
weight the fat cell decreases but the number does not decrease.
Genes. There is every tendency that obesity runs in families
Psychologically, obesity can be caused by emotional
problems. Due to depression, hopelessness and boredom some individuals do
overeat.
Environmental factors. The people around may influence your
lifestyle. Overeating can be learned from peeps around an individual.
Sex. Due to more muscles in males than in females, men burns
more calories than women because the muscles burns much calories.
Pregnancy. Women weighs more after child delivery than
before pregnancy. They normally add 4-6 pounds after pregnancy.
Treatment
Best medication to achieve weight loss is by suppressing the
appetite. Appetite suppressing medications can be obtained from any
pharmaceutical shops. Consult your doctor to direct on the use of drugs to suppress
your appetite. Engage in exercises. They helps in burning excess calories in
the body.
